Gudrun Kampl : Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt

An intervention on the staircase, created by Gudrun Kampl, with Silvie Aigner as curator. The artist Gudrun Kampl has construed a striking intervention in the Upper Belvedere with her textile objects. She has clothed the sculptures in the Sala Terrena in the Marble Hall and on the staircase as if in a second skin. The artist alludes in her Belvedere installation above all to the motifs of rich architectural sculpture in the work of Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt. She works quite deliberately with antitheses, conceived both in the theme of architectural sculpture and in the person of the architect’s client. Prince Eugene is renowned not only as a patron of the arts and sciences, but also as a great military commander. Joie de vivre, sensuousness and play are the features of Gudrun Kampl’s works in an immediate contrast to death and transience.
