The Value of Freedom

Questionning what freedom is, how it can be won or lost, is brought up nowadays repeatedly. The complex concept of freedom is inherently fragile, then again relational and prone to mutual dependencies and intersections like man and society, democracy and economy, work and leisure, body and spirit or nature and culture.
The show in the Belvedere 21 with the rhetoric title "Value of Freedom" and the catalogue, going with it, illustrate psychological, social, cultural, religious, political and legal aspects of contemporary perceptions of freedom from varying perspectives, promoting works by more than fifty artists. Works exhibited argue with various topics like democracy, different forms of government, structures of living together, economy, but also deal with monitoring or censorship. The catalogue contains also a series of essays, with the reference to historical, social and cultural contexts of the concept of freedom.
