Angelika Loderer. Soil Fictions
With the installation Soil Fictions, Loderer has accomplished an impressive feat: employing almost exclusively new works to present an analytical perspective of her full oeuvre to date. From the beginning, her art has consistently explored the theme of Earth as a habitat and the threats human actions pose to its ecosystem. A bronze sculpture—as a product of mineral extraction—speaks to this environmental context, as does the decomposition of a photographic print by a mushroom mycelium. In Soil Fictions, humans seem to play an ensemble part alongside many other actors, their presence often defined by their absence.
