Catalogue Raisonné Georg Eisler

Georg Eisler (1928–1998) was an Austrian postwar Modernist painter known for the keen observational skills that became the hallmark of his art. Driven by an abiding interest in politics and social dynamics, he directed his perceptive gaze to the harsh and dismal realities of his era, including insurrection and protest, which he considered equally important to the exploration of motifs drawn from everyday life. The unmediated artistic portrayal of his surroundings was a defining element of his oeuvre, in which the human figure played a pivotal role, whether depicted as an individual or as part of a larger group. This catalogue raisonné is the culmination of years of research at the Belvedere in collaboration with the Georg and Alice Eisler Fund for Visual Artists and Composers. It provides a comprehensive documentation of Eisler’s extensive painterly oeuvre and is introduced by in-depth essays that offer a thorough examination of his multifaceted life and artistic output.
