How can memories, experiences, and loss find expression in art? Over more than six decades, Polish artist Erna Rosenstein (1913–2004) explored ever new ways of doing so: through paintings, drawings, poems, and assemblages made from everyday objects. Her experiences during the Holocaust and the political developments of the postwar period left their mark on her work, which resists easy art-historical categorization.
