***“I somehow feel like a bee flying from flower to flower.”***

Thomas Baumann’s studio consists of countless “work islands” between which the artist moves, developing different projects in parallel. Ideas can linger in his mind for a long time before he begins looking for ways to bring them to life. Studio, laboratory, workshop, and thinking space merge into one: painting and film meet programming and 3D printing, mechanical constructions encounter found and discarded materials.

In the Studio Visits series, the Belvedere visits artists associated with the museum in their working environments. The videos offer personal insights into studios, creative processes, and current projects – and show how contemporary art is created.

For **Studio Visits**, the Belvedere visits **Thomas Baumann** at his studio near Vienna and explores the many facets of his artistic practice. His connection to the Belvedere goes back a long way: as a school student, annual visits to what was then the 20er Haus were among the highlights of his school year and, as he recalls, influenced his decision to become an artist. Today, several of his works are part of the Belvedere collection, while his site-specific installation WAK – his largest work to date – is on long-term loan in the sculpture garden of the Belvedere 21.
