Better Times? Waldmüller and Vienna Biedermeier
Images of happy children, cozy homes, and pastoral life in the countryside: To this day, no period is so closely associated with a "perfect world" as the Biedermeier era. But what exactly lies beneath this beautiful veneer? What hidden themes can be glimpsed within the pictures? From secure bourgeois sitting rooms to scenes of everyday life to views into the distance, this tour allows the paintings do the talking and questions so-called "better times."
