Franz Xaver Messerschmidt Tetes de Charactére
Hardly ever has an artist's ouevre enjoyed such incessantly great popularity and esteem as Franz Xaver Messerschmidt's (1736-1783). Especially, a series of studied objects, so-called character heads, and with respect their eccentric appearance, made him a world famous sculptor. This publication shows every character head there is, as well as further sculptures by the artist. An essay about the artist's life and oeuvre by Georg Lechner, Baroque expert and Belvedere curator, is supplemented by an extensive list of illlustrations.
