Katalogautorin **Sarah Herring** (National Gallery, London) befasst sich mit der zunehmenden Bedeutung der Landschaftsmalerei im Europa des 19. Jahrhunderts. Catalog author **Sarah Herring** (National Gallery, London) looks at the rise of landscape painting in Europe in the nineteenth century. She examines issues such as training and the fluidity of movement, in particular the importance of spending time in Italy, whose light and scenery drew many artists, Waldmüller included. She also looks at the significance of a painter’s native landscape and its link to national identities in this period. She considers approach and handling and the development in working outside.
