PROGRAM
The works of the Viennese sculptor Fritz Wotruba (1907–1975) are now considered classics of modern sculpture. His main interest was in working with original materials like stone. After his early naturalistic portrayals of people, the artist soon started depicting the basic elements of his figures more freely and abstractly. This diversification also lays the foundation for his works of stage scenery and for his design of an actual building—the Zur Heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit church in Vienna’s Mauer neighborhood, also known as the Wotruba Church. During this guided tour you will find out how Fritz Wotruba portrayed people and his attitude toward architecture. In the process you will gain an exclusive insight into the artist’s estate, the Wotruba Depot, at the Belvedere 21!
