Werner Feiersinger

overturn

In his work, Werner Feiersinger combines his knowledge of the history of art, design and architecture with a laconically reduced design vocabulary. The Austrian sculptor is reinventing the exhibition space at the Belvedere 21 with an extensive sculptural intervention that draws on the building’s history.

Werner Feiersinger’s sculptural intervention alludes to the building in which it is shown, taking cues not only from the exhibition space, designed by Adolf Krischanitz, but also from architectural details of the building created by Karl Schwanzer and its immediate proximity to the Fritz Wotruba Private Foundation. Feiersinger’s intervention projects an autonomous object quality and, at the same, time deals with fundamental questions of sculpture. Thus, the exhibition space will be reformulated and objects placed in dynamic relationship to each other. Feiersinger’s works undermine conventional modes of seeing and are infused with a deep irony.

Werner Feiersinger was born in 1966 in Brixlegg, Tyrol. He now lives and works in Vienna. After studying at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the Jan van Eyck Maastricht Academy, he taught at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts de Lyon. For more than a decade he has exhibited his sculptures and photographs, and has also been responsible for a number of public sculptural interventions.
