Instagram is a giant on the internet. The social platform’s 500 million users share their instant experiences via a series of photos with real and virtual friends. Artists also use the medium to communicate through images. The European Month of Photography provides the Belvedere with the perfect occasion to stage an exhibition which reflects how Austrian artists conceptualize their own creative process through the medium of photography. The inspired, the fragmentary, and the mundane meet in the artists’ microblogs – the exhibition seeks to translate these various pictorial worlds into a real space, and investigates the emergent potential of the use of mobile devices to snap pictures anytime, anywhere.
