Im Lesekreis zur Ausstellung Skin to Skin gehen wir Sandra Mujingas Interesse an den Romanen von Schwarzen Science-Fiction-Autor*innen wie Octavia E. Butler, N. K. Jemisin und Nnedi Okorafor nach. Darin stehen Schwarze Protagonist*innen im Mittelpunkt, die mit gesellschaftlichen Krisen, Umweltkatastrophen und anderen Herausforderungen konfrontiert sind. Häufig zeichnen sich diese spekulativen Erzählungen durch ihre komplexe Auseinandersetzung mit Themen wie Gemeinschaft, Klasse, Race, Kolonialismus, Gender und ökologischen Fragen aus. Eingebettet in dystopische oder utopische Welten eröffnen sie vielfältige Perspektiven auf vergangene, gegenwärtige und zukünftige Entwicklungen.

Bei diesem Termin lesen wir gemeinsam ausgewählte Textpassagen aus der Binti Trilogy von Nnedi Okorafor und diskutieren diese mit Lisa Tackie. Sie studierte Afrikawissenschaften und Internationale Entwicklung, ist Mitgründerin von DISRUPT und Zwischen den Zeilen – Institut für literarische Diversität und kritisches Denken sowie als Antirassismustrainerin und Lektorin tätig.

In the reading circle accompanying the exhibition Skin to Skin, we explore Sandra Mujinga's interest in the novels of Black science fiction authors such as Octavia E. Butler, N. K. Jemisin, and Nnedi Okorafor. They focus on Black protagonists who are confronted with social crises, environmental disasters, and other challenges. These speculative stories are often characterized by their complex examination of themes such as community, class, race, colonialism, gender and ecological issues. Embedded in dystopian or utopian worlds, they offer multi-layered perspectives on past, present, and future developments.

At this event, we will read and discuss selected passages from Nnedi Okorafor‘s Binti Trilogy with Lisa Tackie. She studied African Studies and International Development and is a co-founder of DISRUPT and Zwischen den Zeilen – Institute for Literary Diversity and Critical Thinking. She also works as an anti-racism trainer and lecturer.
